چکیده
Development of heterogeneous catalysts for fine chemicals synthesis has become a major area of research. One of the major drawbacks of the homogeneous catalysts is the difficulty in separating the relatively expensive catalysts from the reaction mixture at the end of the process.1 Recently, Alginic acid as a biological polymer due to its green property, safety, non-toxicity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, stability are used as a heterogeneous catalyst.2 Xanthenes are a very important class of compounds widely used as leuco-dye in laser technology, and in fluorescent materials. In continuation of our interest in the application of heterogeneous catalyst in organic transformation,4-5 we report the simple and efficient procedure for one pot synthesis of 1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthene derivatives using alginic acid as catalyst in a solvent free reaction (Scheme 1)
