چکیده
Electrochemical measurements have advantages for the determination of antioxidant activity such as their use as a rapid proof of the antioxidant capacity of a lot of organics. The oxidation potentials measured by cyclic voltammetry (CV) have been used to compare the antioxidant strength of compounds such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, cinnamic acids, etc. Eucalyptus camaldulensis, the river red gum, is a tree of the genus Eucalyptus. As an ingredient in many products, it is used to reduce symptoms of coughs, colds, and congestion. It also features in creams and ointments aimed at relieving muscle and joint pain. In the present work the electrochemical oxidation of leaf extract of Eucalyptus has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry technique. The results show that leaf extract of Eucalyptus oxidize at low potentials in comparison of quercetin as a standard antioxidant. The DPPH test (radical scavenging activity) was used for estimating antioxidant effect. Also the electrochemical oxidation of N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (acetaminophen) has been studied in the presence of aqueous leaf extract of Eucalyptus using cyclic voltammetry method in the biological pH. The results revealed that the electrochemically generated toxic N-acetyl-p-benzoquinoneimine participates in the chemical reaction with phenolic compounds contained in this extract and is converted to its reduced none toxic form(s). Finally the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles has been performed by using leaf extract of Eucalyptus. Phenolic compounds in leaf extract reduces silver ions from silver nitrate to silver nanoparticles. Synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by UV-Visible absorption spectrum of the reaction mixture.
